Better Quit Or Wait To Be Fired
One of my friend called me last week and asked to let him know if there are any job opportunities available as he quit his job voluntarily. I was wondering why he left such an organization with high pay and a beneficial job at once. Later got to know that his employer had asked him to resign.
For an organization, employees may join and some employees may leave, which is called staff turnover staff turnover can happen voluntarily or involuntarily by the employee's will.
Table 1: Characteristics of Voluntary and involuntary resign

Ask by the employer to resign |
Is there any possibility employer may ask you to resign
voluntarily?
Most probably yes. The employer might ask his employees to
resign voluntarily, considering the interest of both parties, if not in
practical life, employees' job agreement will be terminated and simply be
fired( (Sarokin, 2020), by the employer presenting various issues.
In “theoretically” voluntary resignation took place as
above, employees may still able to walk keep head high as it will not damage to
his or her reputation and no embarrassments from outside the organization and
they may sometimes find next appointment with the help of recommendation or
service letter from the previous employer who asks for resignation.
When an employer wants to restructure the organization, may
be to lower the wages account, or simply want to throw some employees out of
the office as they are not meeting with the organization's culture or have
behavioral issues or being a non-performer or team player employer might ask
for their resignation from certain employees.
Everything may be going well for the employer if the
employee just packed his stuff and left the company; but what happens when the
employee says “No.”
According to Kagan(2021), employers may fire their employees
for
01. Misconduct,
02. Poor job performance,
03. violating company policy,
04. Theft, Damage to company property, or the use of company
assets for personal use without
permission,
05. Insubordination or not performing assigned certain job,
06. Taken too many sick leaves without proper justification,
or consistent lateness,
07. Inappropriate social media activities according to certain
employer agreement moral clauses
In the real scenario, employers may assign any of the above
reasons and formally terminate employees’ job agreement according to prevailing
law or make employees may feel that staying in a current job is undesirable
assuming that the employee will eventually resign by themselves voluntarily or
do encourage them to tender resignations.
But employers may beware of “Constructive discharge” which may occur lawsuit for wrongful termination of the employees and sometimes employees whose dismissal is imminent will get away with his misconducts or whatever the reasons behind to be terminated by voluntary tender their resignation and will leave the organization on their terms which allows them to frame their departure in a more positive light to a prospective employer (worknest, 2021).
In the Sri Lankan context, sometimes underprivileged,
probably he or she be the sole breadwinner of the family, getting fired by
setting up as voluntary resignation by the employers which causes badly damage
to employee’s trust in private-sector job employment and incurring hatred on
society and create no faith in the system of law and order.

When it comes to leaving a job, there is a significant difference between quitting and being fired. Quitting is a colloquial term for leaving a job voluntarily. You made the decision to leave the job on your own, perhaps for a better job opportunity or personal reasons. Getting fired, on the other hand, occurs when you are forced to leave a job.
